About Barry

Soft Tissue Therapist · Myotherapist · Horsham, West Sussex

I’m Barry Cooper, a qualified Soft Tissue Massage Therapist with almost 30 years of hands-on experience helping people move better, feel stronger, and live with less pain.

My background is firmly rooted in soft tissue and sports massage therapy, which remains the foundation of my work. The clinic is called Myotherapy Clinic because over the years my approach has evolved to include a wider range of effective tools — such as medical acupuncture and cupping, when they genuinely support better outcomes for clients.

The name reflects the breadth of treatment, not a move away from hands-on soft tissue work. If anything, it reinforces it.

My Professional Background

I qualified as a Soft Tissue / Sports Massage Therapist with the London School of Sports Massage widely recognised as the home of soft tissue therapy in 1998.

Before that, from 1992 to 2000, I worked as a Personal Trainer, giving me a strong grounding in:

  • biomechanicsmovement patterns

  • load, recovery, and injury prevention

That early experience still shapes how I assess and treat clients today. Pain rarely exists in isolation — it’s usually linked to how the body moves, compensates, and adapts over time.Combined, this gives me almost three decades of practical, real-world experience, not just theory.

Who I’ve Worked With

Over the years, I’ve treated a wide and varied client base, including:

  • Athletes and sports professionals

  • Dancers and performing artists

  • Actors, musicians, and public figures

  • Office workers and desk-based professionals

  • Older adults managing age-related stiffness and pain

  • People dealing with the everyday physical demands of life

While the clients may differ, the underlying principles remain the same:understand the cause, treat the tissue intelligently, and restore movement.

My Approach to Treatment

At Myotherapy Clinic, treatment is one-to-one and tailored, never rushed and never generic.I don’t follow fixed routines or conveyor-belt protocols. Each session starts with understanding:

  • what you’re feeling

  • how long it’s been therewhat makes it better or worse

  • how your body is compensating

From there, I use soft tissue massage as the core treatment, supported where appropriate by techniques such as:

  • myofascial release

  • trigger point therapymedical acupuncture

  • cupping

Not every tool is used on every person. The aim is not to “throw techniques” at a problem, but to use the right approach for your body, at that moment in time.

Why Pain Isn’t Always Where You Feel It

One of the most common reasons people come to see me is frustration. They’ve been treating the painful area — the shoulder, the back, the hip — but the problem keeps returning. That’s because pain is often the end result of compensation, not the original cause.Soft tissue therapy allows me to assess how different muscle groups, fascia, and movement patterns interact. Very often, treating areas away from where you feel the pain is what finally creates lasting change.

What You Can Expect

Clients often tell me they appreciate that I:

  • take time to listenexplain what’s going on in clear language

  • work methodically rather than forcefully

  • focus on long-term improvement, not quick fixes

My goal isn’t just short-term relief — it’s to help you understand your body better and reduce the likelihood of the problem returning.

A Note on Medical Care

Myotherapy and soft tissue treatment do not replace medical diagnosis or care. I work alongside — not instead of — conventional healthcare and will always advise seeing your GP or specialist where appropriate.
